Eye Surgery in Prague: Patient Reviews

“I am three weeks after undergoing surgery using the ReLEx SMILE method, and I have to say that I can already see almost perfectly. At the beginning, I had –4.75 and –5.25 diopters, which is why the ReLEx SMILE method was recommended to me. I had my initial consultation in České Budějovice and the surgery here in Prague, because the ReLEx SMILE procedure is not available in České Budějovice. On the day of the surgery, everyone was very kind and helpful. The entire process was explained to me, and you also receive pre-operative instructions about the procedure. In total, I spent about three hours at the clinic, including the surgery. The surgery itself lasted only a few minutes and was completely painless. I only felt slight pressure on the eye. They applied eye drops so that I wouldn't feel any pain. After the procedure, I received two types of eye drops for home treatment and a pair of sunglasses. On the first day, it's best to keep your eyes closed and rest them. By the second day, I could already notice a small improvement. Now (after three weeks), my vision is great. Occasionally, I still have a bit of difficulty focusing when switching from distance to close-up, which is normal. The doctor told me it usually takes about a month after surgery for vision to stabilize completely. I would definitely recommend resting your eyes during the first week and limiting time spent looking at a computer or phone. After longer strain, my eyes sometimes felt tired. Overall, I would definitely recommend the clinic. I was very satisfied.”

“On Wednesday, May 30, I visited the GEMINI Eye Clinic in Prague – Krč, U Společenské zahrady, for cataract surgery. After checking in at the reception, I underwent a series of preoperative eye examinations, which impressed me with the thoroughness and expertise of both the doctors and the nurses. They always explained the purpose of each examination. The coordination between the different tests was remarkable. The kindness and very professional approach to patients here are exemplary. After all the examinations, the surgery was performed by Associate Professor Dr. Drahomíra Baráková CSc, together with a team of nurses, who not only did their work perfectly but also reassured and guided me throughout the entire procedure. Thank you very much, Doctor — by the next day my vision was already excellent, and it is expected to improve even more in the short term. I would also like to thank Dr. Kalužáková, with whom I had my postoperative check-up the following day. I have absolutely no regrets about the expenses, as this experience is an investment in the future. When I have surgery on my other eye, I will definitely choose your clinic again.”

“Hello everyone, I wanted to write a review about the laser eye surgery I underwent at Gemini in April. I am 20 years old, I play sports, and I had –4 diopters in each eye. I cannot wear contact lenses, and I also plan to join the army, so surgery seemed like the right solution for me. The procedure was not actually recommended to me because my prescription was still unstable (my diopters were still increasing) and also because of my young age. Despite that, I decided to go ahead with the surgery. The reception at the clinic was great. The staff were very pleasant, and the waiting time was not that bad overall (the examination took about 2 hours at most). The eye drops and the surgery itself were painless, except for the moment when the corneal flap was created, which was unpleasant. There was a lot of pressure and it was slightly painful. If there had been no minor complications, I probably would have spent a bit less time in the operating room. After the surgery: follow-up check-ups took place after 3 days, 7 days, 14 days, and then after 1 and 3 months. Right after the surgery, my vision felt as if I had +10 diopters, but already on the way back to Pardubice I started to see better and could clearly recognize the license plates of other cars. In the evening I went to sleep normally. My eyes were only a bit tired, but nothing hurt, so I didn't even need to take any painkillers. The day after the surgery, I could see well in the distance. I watched TV and by the afternoon I was already driving a car. Within a few days, my distance vision was absolutely great, but it took about two months after the surgery for my vision to fully stabilize at a perfect 0 diopters. Seeing up close was a bit more difficult at first, and I only started to see clearly at close range about 10 days after the surgery. Now I am 9 months after the surgery, and I have never had any problems with my eyes. The doctors even confirmed that my vision is 148%. The only thing I regret is that I didn't do it sooner.”

“I underwent phakic lens implantation, which fulfilled my long-time dream of life without glasses. I was able to function without glasses practically immediately after the surgery, although my vision temporarily worsened later the same day. The next day, I could see everything perfectly — actually even better than with glasses. I experienced no problems, only occasional stinging and headaches, which are completely normal after such a procedure. The surgery itself is painless, and everything is explained to you in advance. My experience with the Gemini Eye Clinic in Prague has been more than excellent. In terms of patient care, I found the approach to be highly professional, both from the doctors and the rest of the staff. The operation took about 15 minutes, and the next day there is a follow-up check. Personally, I found the approach to patients outstanding — the team at the clinic works very well together. “It's been almost a month since I had eye surgery in Krč — specifically, phakic lens implantation. Every day since the surgery, I've been enjoying the results. The feeling of not needing glasses or contact lenses is such a relief — it's wonderful. I definitely recommend it to everyone. There really is nothing to be afraid of. The approach from the doctors at Gemini is very professional and at the same time friendly. I always felt comfortable there. I had been coming for almost two years before my eyes were ready (and my wallet too). I was nervous before the surgery, but the nurses reassured me, and the overall pleasant atmosphere made me look forward to finally seeing clearly without glasses. I am very grateful to Associate Professor Dr. Baráková for performing the procedure, which was completely painless — just a bit of pressure. It only took around 5–6 minutes. After the surgery, my eyes were watery and it wasn't very comfortable to look around, but I could see immediately. By the next morning, I no longer had to search for my glasses on the nightstand. The staff was very kind and helpful, especially the doctor who performed my surgery. “For me, everything went perfectly from start to finish, and I will be recommending this clinic everywhere I go! I had no issues with any of the doctors; all were kind and approachable. Honestly, I don't understand the hate some people have for the receptionist — she greeted me and asked for my insurance card, that's all. She didn't bring me coffee or water, which anyone can help themselves to from the barrel in the middle of the waiting room. That doesn't seem like a reason to lower the overall rating. If you're unsure about which procedure to have, I recommend getting advice. I was worried they would push the most expensive option on me, but on the contrary, the doctor told me that any extra fees weren't necessary. The surgery itself was fantastic; we even had a laugh in the operating room with the "broccoli". The postoperative recovery was painless and smooth, except for the first three hours. Since I work daily on a computer, after 14 days I noticed one eye was significantly worse, and I started to panic — but now, a month later, I can see perfectly with both eyes. “My mother left her eye doctor saying, "I need surgery. The doctor says I need this and that, and it will cost about 70,000 CZK." We both felt a bit dizzy hearing that, especially when the doctor referred us to a "private" clinic. Thinking that the clinic would just want to make money, I started working more, selling things, and eventually the time came for our first visit. We arrived at the clinic prepared to pay the 70,000 CZK. I had never experienced so many initial examinations just to find out a few pieces of information. The environment was wonderful and very calm, with welcoming staff and true professionals. Even I stopped minding that we might have to pay such a large amount. After about two hours — which were genuinely spent examining practically everything related to the eyes — we had waited in the waiting room for a maximum of 15 minutes. Then we left the appointment with a kind doctor who told us that the surgery recommended by my mother's doctor was actually not necessary. In fact, it might even have been worse and more risky. Instead, we received information and an offer for a procedure that would not only be safer but also much cheaper (about 50,000 CZK less). Why am I talking so much about money here? I would like to highlight that not everyone is trying to profit from our health — some people genuinely want to help. I truly appreciate this approach from the Gemini clinic. We are now waiting for the surgery date, and after such an excellent experience, I strongly believe it will be one of the best things my mother could have received. A pleasant environment, amazing staff, experts, and plenty of information about anything you might ask. I wish there were more clinics like this! Thank you!”

“I'm surprised by the negative reviews here. I've been a patient at Gemini for several years and I can't praise them enough. I receive care here for free at a level that I would have to pay for at some private clinics. Appointments are on time, the waiting rooms are cozy and comfortable with free coffee, the staff is friendly, but most importantly, they have state-of-the-art equipment and highly competent doctors. I first went there to ask about the possibility of a corrective eye surgery. I was attended by Dr. Toman, an exceptionally friendly and kind person. During a very thorough initial examination, he discovered a retinal issue and advised against the surgery. I agree with several other reviewers who appreciated this approach — helping the patient comes before profit at Gemini, which they could have earned from the surgery. I definitely recommend them. The only reason I'm giving one star less is because of the confusing navigation — the centre moved from Krč to Nové Butovice so subtly that I once struggled to get to the old building in Krč. Even in the reviews here, it's not clear enough that most of them are for the no-longer-existing Krč location. The new facility in Butovice is definitely more comfortable.”

“At this clinic, it really depends on which doctor you see. Last April, I saw a doctor who told me that I could have the surgery and didn't see any reason why it shouldn't be possible. However, some time later, another doctor refused to perform the procedure, saying that "a small child with diabetes also can't be cured," and that I should accept that I wouldn't see well without glasses. In my opinion, this is a completely terrible approach for a private clinic. I understand that perhaps the surgery isn't suitable for me, but it could have been communicated much more kindly. Today, on the other hand, I had a check-up with a different doctor, and the approach was excellent — very kind, and she discussed everything with me thoroughly. In my family, we also have experience with cataract surgery at this clinic, and we were very satisfied.”
